Leave the bike on the ground, shift to 5th gear, engage the clutch, and have a friend sit on the bike and apply the rear brake while you loosen the stator "fan" bolt. Do NOT use a Crescent wrench as it will surely round off. An impact wrench may break it loose but take your time. A few drops of Liquid Wrench as directed may help but usually these are a pain to remove. The manual calls for a puller to remove the inside half of the stator. I got mine off with no special tools. There is a Woodruff key in the stator that aligns with the shaft. Remove that and tap gently around the hub of the stator to "rock" it loose so you can pull it off by hand...be patient. Otherwise you may need to source a puller. Are you disassembling the engine? Good luck. The 700 and 650 Nighthawks are great bikes. Ride in Peace.
