When was the erhu invented?

The erhu, a two-stringed bowed instrument, is believed to have originated in China during the Tang dynasty, around the 7th century AD. Its development continued over the centuries, and by the Song dynasty (960-1279 AD), it had become more prominent in Chinese music.
