Nothing physically prevents any of us from eating our pets -- their slaughter, preparation, and cooking would be the same as with farm animals -- but moral concerns do stop most of us from doing this and, depending on where you live, the law might have something to say about it, too. The answer to this question is a matter of opinion.

Opinions on eating pet rabbits

One person writes: I think that eating your pet rabbit would be disturbing but it's possible.

Another writes: No, it's wrong.

Another writes: Yes, you can eat your pet rabbit, provided it is in good health.....

Rabbits are good when put into a nice thick stew, slowly roasted over open coals, floured then fried and served over rice with gravy or slow cooked in a nice cajun gumbo with deer sausage and a side of red beans and rice....

Take care when field dressing the rabbit so as not to taint the meat and use gloves as rabbits and other members of the rodent family can carry diseases in their intestines and blood, one common disease is known as rabbit fever...

There may be some emotional issues at first but they will soon pass as you enjoy the great flavor of a well prepared rabbit.....

Then you may like to have several pet rabbits and raise them to adulthood and harvest the tasty meat...I personally have raised tame rabbits for the last 20 years for their meat, they are well cared for and the kids enjoy playing with them all through the summer but they also enjoy harvest time in December when they know rabbit will be on the menu....
