Why does the heart beat faster when you are in shock?

In preperation for a biological response of 'fight or flight' adrennalen is pumped around your body which causes your heart to go much faster so that you can do things which you wouldn't normally. Your body thinks you are either going to fight something or run away...the choice is up to you what you decide to do.
