Why do they make dragons roar?

Traditionally speaking, a dragon is a hybrid between a lizard, a fish, a lion, and some sparkly pizzazz that makes it breathe fire. I would imagine that the expression of a dragon roaring comes from the fact the Dragon is supposed to be part lion.
