Analyzing the plot structure of a book begins with the reader's interpretation of the first few pages. Capturing the reader's attention early, whether it is with a description of the setting, details of an event, or the introduction of main characters, is a writer's most important tool. In order to follow, analyze, and understand the book's main plot, the reader must be able to understand the personalities of the characters, what motivates each character, and how they interract with one another.
