Symbolism of failure in the Lord of the Flies?

The dead fire is symbolism of failure to be rescued. Failure to get rescued is not symbolised by the dead fire, it is a direct consequence of the dead fire. The obvious symbols of failure to achieve or carry through their plans are the shelters by the beach. According to Ralph, of the three shelters Simon and himself were largely responsible for two of them and one of these collapsed as he spoke.
