Is it true a goose pet warns about danger?

When I was a kid, we had a gander (the male). Whenever a car was driven down the driveway, he would really start hollering that distinctive honk. I wouldn't say it was warning of danger, unless it was to him. But, he was certainly telling us that something was different and that he didn't like for things to be different in his world.
