How many people die every hour because of drunk drivers?

The statistic is one every 28-30 minutes. 2 people die every hour. On average, 48 people die everyday. On holidays such as New Years, or Christmas, the average goes up to almost double that. In Texas, the record stands around 170 people in a single 24 hour period on a weekend.

The above statistic is based on government estimates of the number killed in alcohol-related traffic crashes, not specifically those killed in accidents involving a drunken driver. The latter is a subset of the former.
