'Paparazzi', taken from an Italian term 'paparazzo' (pappa- rattso) or 'paparazza', used to refer to photojournalist's who are outside the mainstream media. They are generally independent, selling their photographs to the highest bidder. Usually employing any and all means to acquire their photographs often descending upon celebrities like hordes of locusts in an unacceptable fashion, or employing telescopic lenses to try and catch celebrities in private and sometimes compromising situations. Unscrupulous money grubbers could be an accurate description as well. Paparazzi were accused of being the principle catalyst leading to Princess Dianna's fatal car accident.
