Spartan 117 real name

Alot of people don't know this but the one called the Master Chief, also known as Spartan-117 real name is John. Only his first name is stated in the series of books and a few times in the Halo games. In addition from time to time (in the books) the writers try to give you a picture of his past. An example is HALO: First Strike. The only problem with Spartan-117 background is he doesn't have a last name. if he had a last name then, he could be associated with a family also giving details about his parents.
