Muhammad became convinced he was the last prophet of God after experiencing a series of revelations beginning in 610 CE. During one of his meditative retreats in the cave of Hira, he encountered the Angel Gabriel, who delivered messages from God. These revelations, which continued over the next 23 years, emphasized the oneness of God and outlined a new religious framework, leading Muhammad to believe he was the final messenger in a long line of prophets. This conviction ultimately culminated in the establishment of Islam.
