Female Bats normally have just one offspring per litter. They might have several litters during the season, depending on the species, climate, and the availability of roost sites, and food. There are a few species that may give birth to as many as four, but this is not really the "norm", but it does happen. But, it is generally believed, since she must fly to feed while pregnant, and while she nurses her young, almost until they reach full wing mass, so they can hunt. That she can only raise one at a time. A range of delayed fertilization processes is used by Bats to control the timing of the pregnancy, and birth, to have the most food for mother and young, in order to give both a healthy chance at survival.
