How did princes Charles became the prince of wales?

Charles was created Prince of Wales on 26 July 1958, by an act of the monarch, his mother, though his investiture as such was not conducted until 1 July 1969, wherein he was crowned by his mother in a ceremony held at Caernarfon Castle.
