Who where and who invented the U-boats in World War 1?

The first German U-boat, U1 was commissioned into the German Navy in 1906, one year after the Russo-Japanese War ended.

U1 had been one of the models (designs) exported to Russia during the 1904-1905 war with Japan.

The Russian subs were never used in the war.
