Individuals experiencing homelessness are disproportionately affected by mental health issues. Studies show that around 25-30 of people who are homeless have a serious mental illness, compared to about 6 of the general population. Additionally, rates of depression, anxiety, and substance abuse are also higher among the homeless population. Access to mental health services for this group is often limited, exacerbating their struggles.
