The pilgrims started out with a whole fleet of cows, but they didn't fare so well on the Mayflower. A few were eaten when the bread got moldy, a few jumped overboard because they had sea sickness, and the majority died because the Pilgrims forgot to pack grass.
One cow did survive the journey. It's name was Besty and, in fact, Betsy Ross (who made the first American flag) was named after this lone Survivor of the Pilgrim voyage.
