There are many skills that make up a good tutor. I list them out below.

The tutor needs to have:

* good knowledge about the subject he or she is helping the student with. * the ability to explain and/or demonstrate that knowledge in multiple ways (i.e. needs good teaching skills) * good communication skills * the ability to develop rapport or connection with the student * a passion for working with young people

Having the ability to generate rapport is an important skill. If the student does not like the tutor, doesn't respect the tutor, or is bored or afraid of the tutor, then the support is unlikely to be successful.
