How does black spruce breathe?

Black spruce trees, like all plants, breathe through a process called respiration, which occurs in their cells. They take in oxygen from the air and release carbon dioxide, primarily at night when photosynthesis is not occurring. During the day, they also exchange gases through tiny openings called stomata on their needles, allowing them to absorb carbon dioxide for photosynthesis while releasing oxygen.
