"The School of Athens" is one of several frescos painted 1508-1513 on the walls of the library of Pope Julius II in the Vatican Palace, the building of which St. Peter's Basilica is the heart. It represents Philosophy and is opposite to a fresco titled "The Disputation," which represents Theology.
