What is a column in a magazine?

Same as the usage in a newspaper, a vertical strip of printed copy, Columns go up and down, as in architecture, Banners flag attention from left to right- the masthead, usually one Word, is a sort of identity device with trick lettering or typography, the Jersey Journal used to use a grey banner with Block letters, it stands out and Flags attention on the newstands- like a flag at the masthead of a ship, hence the name. I've been an amateur writer in the local paper since l978 so I know the lingo.
