Dreams are produced by the subconscious mind, and experienced while the conscious mind rests. Upon waking, the conscious mind cannot always access dreams before they fade away. This may be due to the different functions of the conscious and subconscious minds, and their differing access to memories. If the dream fades before registering in the conscious mind, it might not be stored in either the short-term or long-term memory.
