If you are asking this because you are seeing the oak tree's leaves fall off at this time of year, RELAX! -It is only the effects of winter (the coldness and lessening of sunshine) that causes the sap to stay low in the tree, so that it can survive until springtime, when the weather warms up a bit.

This method of survival is known as "hibernation" with regard to animals, such as the Bear family.

However, on a larger scale, some American silviculturists DO agree that there is no single cause responsible for "Oak Tree Decline".
