How strong is a German shepherds sense of smell?

German Shepherds have a very keen sense of smell, and are very intelligent. This is one of the reasons they are used as service dogs. Police use them to seek out narcotics and to find offenders on the run, Army use them for seeking out explosives, bombs and to warn of advancing enemies. They are also used for search and rescue, seeking out lost victims and also victims of disasters. The breed is very versatile and can be trained to seek out almost anything, these are only a few examples.
