Why do animals fight for the right to mate?

It is natural to every creature to mate so the life will continue and their specie - espicially their family - will be stronger than others. Fighting for mate is part of natural competition - people cannot answer, why this is happening, it is one of the biggest philosophical questions - Question of life, which can be formulate as "Why is life taking place?"
