What is character dialogue?

Character dialogue is when one character or more is talking in a story. This is an example of character dialogue:

"How could you tell that the school was on fire?" Lily asked.

"I don't know, I could just smell the smoke during science class," Charlie replied.

See? Character dialogue is when one or more characters are having a conversation. In stories, authors try to make character's conversation's seem as realistic as they can.

To do this, you need to observe people talking around you. Next time you go out with friends, listen to their conversation, or watch movie scenes where two people are talking. This will help you distinguish character dialogue and be able to write some of your own.
