Why does your Yamaha 1100 backfire when you change gears?

Because you have non-standard pipes on it and need balancing venturi cones in the headers, or more baffles in the pipes or the fuel/air mixture tweaking. Or the timing is too advanced. If you have a non standard pipes you may need to plug the breather source pipe on the breather box to eliminate any extra Oxygen at the exhaust.
