Why soft drink is a mixture and water is a compound?

Water is a compound because it is made from Oxygen and Hydrogen chemically bonded together to form a water molecule (H2O). With water you can not separate the Oxygen from the Hydrogen by physical means.

A soft drink is a mixture because it is made from:

• Water
• Sugar
• Flavorings
• Colorings

It is possible to separate these things out of the mixture using physical means.
