Answer: Sometimes

There are many different packages available for cable and DSL. A high-dollar DSL connection is probably going to be much faster than the penny-pinchers cable modem.

Having said that, it has been my personal experience that a cable connection is usually a little faster than a similarly priced DSL connection.
