Magical spells are a part of the practice of the Craft. They tend to be like recipes for how to do various magical things.

A true practitioner of magic creates each spell anew for each specific need. They may use old spells from their own or another practitioner's Book of Shadows or other source, but they always vary them slightly.

The research done to create a spell is part of the energy you put into it.

It is important to take into consideration:

- your intent (is this something needful? Will it cause harm to yourself or another? Is there a mundane way to achieve your goal? and if so are you also doing that?)

- informed consent (if you are working for or on anyone else do they know what you are doing? Do they know why you are doing it? Do you have their express permission to do it? If not, do not proceed.)

- the phase and house of the moon you will be working in. (it does no good to do a prosperity spell when the moon is waning in Capricorn)

- the materials you need to create your spell. Herbs (best gathered and processed yourself), oils (essential not fragrance), incense, appropriate to your need (make your own if you can), candles, (color, shape, and content beeswax/palm oil/paraffin are all important), other items (cloth, wood, talismans, crystals, paper, inks, etc.)

- the ritual/spell itself. Write your own, it is better to use your own Words than to parrot someone else's bad poetry. This way you know for certain what you are invoking, what you are asking for, and what you are offering to pay for it. (nothing is ever completely free)
