Was Louis Riel a Criminal

Some people see Louis Riel as a criminal because he set up his own provisional government at Batoche. He was filed for treason against the government so some people might say so.

But, Louis Riel's actions also resulted in the creation of some of our promises, and he brought about issues that the First Nations and Metis were having to the government. Some people don't think he's a criminal, but should be considered a Father of Confederation.
