Importance of information communication technology in development of rural areas?

It is quite interesting to raise such a question as it is an issue in addressing the development questions of many international and local organizations as well as nations particularly the third world in developing their rural areas. To answer the raised question, saying "Yes" could be an answer for the importnace aspect. But the "HOW ?" can it be achieved and in "WHAT" way the importance of ICT can be magnified in rural areas where other socio-economic factors are gaining priority. The two conceptual questions are my Biggest question I am interested and want to research on it. Let us discuss on the experiences, cases, possibilties, and research interests.
