To date there have been 5l or 52 ( depends on whether you count Christa macauliffe, whose craft did not technically reach space- but blew up in the atmosphere) Female astronauts. there have been four admitted fatalities on the US side, rumors of several soviet accidents in Space with fatal consequences.
