- 6 states plus Washington DC allow same-sex marriage (It will be 7 states once California's Proposition 8 is overturned)
- 8 states offer civil unions that give almost all of the state-level marriage rights
- 4 states offer limited partnership rights
- 28 states allow employers to fire someone for being gay
