What is a hunter clip?

Horses grow long coats in winter. Horses that are ridden or worked can become overheated very fast so it is usual to cut off most of this excessive hair. This is called clipping. Clips can be just a few lines of hair to allow sweat to drain off or almost the entire coat. The hunter clip is one of the more extreme, leaving the hair long only on the lower legs, belly, saddle patch and parts of the face and neck. This clip is used on horses that work very hard, such as racehorses, eventers or hunters.
