How much did an older home cost in 1974?

Sorry, no one answer. It would depend on the size of the home, what is was built of, and where it was located. My wife and I bought our first home about then, and it was $21,000 for a 3 bedroom 1 bath 2 story frame house on 1 acre of land. Change location, price could be half that or double that.
