How much did a Mercedes-Benz cost in 1977?

according to "Car Magazine" November issue (I think) 1989, (South African Magazine) the Mercedes Benz 500se W126 cost R200 000.00 (South African Rand) in 1989. Back then you could buy a luxury house with 200 000K, Back then it was the most expensive Merc. now about 20 years later, you can add a "Zero" and see that you can get the newest Merc for about R2000 000.00 (Probly the sls 65 amg) and for the same R2000 000.00 you can ....again.... buy a luxury house. so if this is the change in 20 years, work it back to 1977.
