Why is life on earth so confined to such a narrow layer of the earths surface?

Life on Earth is confined to a narrow layer on the Earth's surface, known as the biOSphere, because it provides the right conditions for life to thrive, such as sunlight, water, and a stable temperature range. The biOSphere is where the necessary resources for life can be found, including nutrients, oxygen, and protection from harsh conditions. Outside of this narrow layer, conditions are typically too extreme or lacking in necessary resources to support most forms of life.
