What is the ideal thickness for a glass table top?

It depends on the type of table! If the glass is placed on a solid surface, 1/4 inch (6mm) works fine. But for standalone glass tables, it's better to go with at least 3/8 inch (10mm) or even 1/2 inch (12mm) for strength and safety.
