Fire. As soon as man learned to make fire he was able to cook food, have heat from the cold, and to share a campfire with others. This began the creation of tribes and society for early man and because he could eat cooked food and proteins his brain grew bigger allowing him to think beyond what animals could do making him superior to the animals he hunted.
