The legal age to purchase tobacco in Australia is 18 years old. The sale is prohibited to individuals under the age of 18, however it is not illegal for a person under 18 to purchase cigarettes (only the shop owner would be prosecuted). There is no restriction on what age a person can smoke in Australia.
