Advantages of Mold Flow: - Mold flow helps in identifying a variety of potential problems and improvements for a mold before it gets built. The results are less risk involved, more time and money saved in adjustments and faster delivery. Using mold flow, it helps to-
1. Decrease investment costs.
2. Decrease product development time.
3. Decrease the problem to be born with the parts and mold will have.
4. Decrease total development time and the amount of time in trying molds.
5. Enhance the quality of parts.
6. Increase the quality of finish good products.
Limitations/disadvantages of Mold Flow:-
1. The plastics flow simulation may not always accurate because of difference in plastics grades to be used for the injection molding process.
2. The simulation of temperature variation in injection mold may not be accurately predicted because of the impurities in plastics and the steel to be used to machine the mold.
3. Due to so many environmental factors (such as different room temperature and humidity), the actual shrinkage and warpage in the plastic product may differ from the predictions of mold flow.
4. Mold Flow analysis is very complex and time taking process, which needs skilled and experienced peoples to carry out mold flow analysis.
5. Lack of availability of skilled and experienced peoples to carry out mold flow analysis successfully.
