What was the economy of the south and the west during World War 2?

The U.S. economy benefitted because they were trading with many European powers who needed war materials desperately. One of the reasons the U.S. got involved was because Germany infringed on the U.S.'s neutrality stance. All of Europe's economy was hurt by the war, as well as Russia's.
