Does the IME supersede all doctors orders?

No, the IME doesn't consider you a patient and doesn't give orders. The IME gives an "independent" assessment of your condition so that the insurer can determine if you have reached maximal medical improvement or if treatment should continue. You can still continue treatment with your current health care providers; you just may have to pay out of pocket or via your usual health insurance.
