All sand filters have an opening through which you can add or remove the sand. BUT why on earth would you want to SAVE it? If the sand needs changing it will be full of gunk and no use for anything but the dump.

Sand should be chnaged every couple of years because it becomes rounded and less effective than new sand. I saved my sand and dried it. I had water tubes that had leaks and were useless. I filled them (one side) with sand and use them to hold down the winter cover. They are heavy and do not store as easily as empty water tubes, but they are very effective and I don't worry about them leaking.

Good luck
