The newspaper plant prints a certain number of them each day (called a "print run") and then delivery people truck them to news-stands, and local drivers take them to home-delivery customers. Back in 1960, that was the only way. Today, while that still happens, you can also receive your newspaper online, delivered directly to your computer. This, of course, was not possible in 1960, and it is how most younger people receive the newspaper now. But there are still large enough readers who want hard-copy editions, so the vast majority of newspapers continue to print and deliver them.
