Adults: Yes, they work by different mechanisms. Don't go over 4 grams of Tylenol/day (1 extra strength Tylenol is 500 mg) or over 1200 mg of ibuprofen/day (each tablet is 200 mg). If you have any bleeding, cardiovascular, kidney, or liver problems, run it by your doctor before taking these medications.

Children: In theory, the answer is yes, but to my knowledge, there have not been a lot of studies in children with both medications being used. Better to err on the side of caution and alternate between the two every 4 to 6 hours.

Answer

No. DON'T DO IT. My friend really struggled. Use of Tylenol with other pain relievers (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen sodium, ketoprofen or prescription pain relievers) is not recommended, unless directed by your doctor.

ibuprofen=Advil, Motrin

naproxen sodium = Aleve

Basically, don't take Tylenol(acetaminophen) with anything.

Don't take Tylenol with alcohol(it increases the toxicity). Taking one acetaminophen tablet daily for a year also increases the risk of kidney failure.

Some forms of actaminophen are

  • Tylenol
  • Panadol
  • Tylenol Arthritis
  • Excedrin

Do not use Tylenol with any other products containing acetaminophen. Tylenol is acetaminophen and you can exceed the daily recommended limits if you combine it with other acetaminophen products. Excess use can cause liver damage and failure.

Acetaminophen is contained in countless pain formulations, cold products, sinus preparations, and more (e.g. Sinutab, Midol, Ultracet, Dristan).

Many people do not realize that acetaminophen is found in more than 600 over the counter drugs. It can be found in combination with other active ingredients in many cold, sinus, and cough medications.

Research this at www.Tylenol.com.

If you are under a doctor's care for any serious condition, or are taking any other drugs, you should talk to your doctor if you want to know more or have other questions.

Acetaminophen:

  • daily use is highly likely to cause to rebound headaches, and lead to chronic daily headaches
  • daily use over extended periods has been show to cause liver damage
  • Avoid alcohol. Alcohol taken during therapy with acetaminophen can be very damaging to your liver.
  • Acetaminophen may cause false urine glucose test results. Talk to your doctor if you are diabetic and you notice changes in your glucose levels while you are taking acetaminophen
  • Parents should be cautious when giving acetaminophen to children. For example, the infant drop formula is three times more concentrated than the children's suspension. It's important to read drug labels every time you use a drug and to make sure that your child is getting the children's formula and your infant is getting the infants' formula

It is strongly recommended you research this yourself. Excess use can cause liver damage in kids and adults. Do not let someone decide for you;always research these topics yourself!!!!! Never listen to message boards. A lot of people lie on websites.

Please do not take my Word for it. Please always research it yourself at a reliable source. If in doubt, talk to your doctor.
