I believe that once a person excepts a position within law enforcement they not only represent the police department, but also the community in which they serve. If a police officer wants respect from the community then they should respect the community. Officers of the law are representations of the community and in so should be vigilant about conducting themselves as symbols of honor, integrity, courage and role-models for the youths of the community.

If an officer is making a spectacle of himself or herself in a bar after drinking too much, it would depend on the actions of the officer at that time. If their antics are in jest and good nature, then this would present the officer to the community as also being a regular Joe to the other patrons., if they are being obnoxious and belligerent, then they should be reprimanded for misconduct, just because they wear a badge does not give them the authority to do whatever they please without repercussions, plus how could an officer arrest someone in the future for the same behavior that they presented.
