How much is a George Washington dollar coin worth?

As legal tender, the George Washington dollar coin is worth exactly $1. However, since their manufacture has ceased, they have collectible status, and the unofficial value has gone up significantly. As of early 2010, they can be purchased at coin stores for about $6 each.

I have seen them on e bay for $2.95 with free shipping. That was a buy it now. So I would say $2.95 tops. That doesn't mean that you can get $2.95 for them. Maybe that $6 price was a proof.
