The US inventor, Thomas Alva Edison is given credit for his contribution to the film industry. He had thousands of patents awarded to him from the electric light bulb to the first type of movies. Late in the 19th century Edison invented a machine called the kinetoscope. It permitted a person to see "moving pictures".
